Street Art, Maindee Triangle

Some photos below from last weekend's art workshops. I was invited to design some art on the wooden hoardings, which anyone could add to at Maindee Triangle. This little part of Newport is currently under development - with a brand new cafe, climbing wall, and outdoor performance space set to open this summer.
All are much needed and welcomed by the local community. Another new development will be a home for 'Maindee Makers,' in its own building a few doors up the road! All of these brilliant projects are happening through the work of a core team of dedicated volunteers + Programme Manager John Hallam and Project Manager Ruth Essex. The volunteers and Maindee Unlimited committee have been working tirelessly to gain funding from various sources (including Esmee Fairbairn, National Lottery and Arts Council Wales)
All hail people power!
What I enjoyed most about this day was seeing everyone willing to have a go and have fun being creative. It was a great turnout, and some of the highlights were pizza and nasturtium seeds (including tiny pots filled with compost) shared with everyone!
As for the artwork, usually, I would prime the surface with a weather shield or anti-graffiti paint but this time decided to paint straight on to the wood which gave a warmer feeling to the whole artwork. As the hoardings are only temporary, (just 3 months!) we want people to stop by and keep adding to it.
I got to know so many new people in the community through this project and I hope that I will see them again soon. It was a treat to be outside and with other people now that lockdown is slowly easing.
